How to make a link that opens your Instagram DMs

Open DM Links, name the link after where you will share it, and click “Create link”. Anyone who taps it lands in a DM with you, and their lead is filed under that link.

What a DM Link does

A DM Link is a web address that opens a direct message with your Instagram account. You can put it in a newsletter, a QR code on your packaging, a video description or an affiliate page.

Each link carries its own hidden code. When someone messages you through it, Replavia files that lead under the link. So you can see which place actually brings people in.

DM Links are on every plan, including Free.

Steps

  1. Open DM Links in the menu.
  2. Under What is this link for?, type a name, like “March newsletter”. Only you see it, so name it after the place you will publish it.
  3. If you have more than one Instagram account, pick one under Which inbox should it open?
  4. Click Create link.
  5. Copy the link from Your links and put it to work.

Give the link something to reply with

A lead is only recorded when one of your automations answers. That can be a DM keyword automation or an ice breaker on the account. If neither is set up, a person can open your inbox and say “hi”, and there is nothing to file.

See which link works

Each link in Your links shows how many leads came through it. In the Lead Inbox, the source of those leads ends with “via” and the link name.

Good to know

  • The link looks like ig.me/m/yourname followed by a code. The /m/ part matters: without it, Instagram drops the username and opens its home page instead.
  • These links open the Instagram app. Instagram does not support them on the desktop web, and very old app versions cannot open them. Treat the lead count as a minimum, not an exact total.
  • Your handle is part of the link. If you rename your Instagram account, copies you already shared stop opening your inbox, because Instagram does not forward old handles. The page then shows a new link with your current handle.
  • Retire this link only hides it on the page. A printed QR code keeps working, and its leads are still credited, so links are never deleted.
  • You can create up to 200 links, and retired links count toward that number.
